With the April proof run CRV introduces FeedExcel to make it easier for farmers to distinguish bulls with the highest feed efficiency scores. Bulls branded with this quality mark are guaranteed to sire highly productive daughters with extended longevity that efficiently convert feed into milk. Farmers that use FeedExcel bulls can expect to end up with a herd having better income/feed costs ratio and fewer emissions.
The index run of April 2023 confirms the leading position in feed efficiency of bulls from CRV's breeding programs and all the bulls mentioned in this press release are FeedExcel.
Woody outperforms genomic breeding values
CRV now offers a new absolute top daughter-proven bull: Willem’s-Hoeve Woody (Ranger x Jetset). In this index run, he got his first breeding value based on daughter information; it exceeded his genomic breeding value. His proofs are based on data of almost 500 daughters. They have turned out to be phenomenal milk producers (1,809 kg) with positive protein content (+0.04%). They also have very correct udders (111) and solid feet and legs (106). Woody scores 111 total conformation, 108 feed efficiency, and +13% CRV Efficiency, so as a daughter-proven bull he scores better than many young bulls. With 150 RZG (Relativ Zuchtwert Gesamt), Woody is number 9 in Germany in the ranking of daughter-proven bulls.
Efficiency king Encourage remains at the top
Former Create bull Delta Encourage (Fragrant x Trust) is now freely available. With 415 NVI (Dutch-Flemish Index), he remains at the forefront of the list of genomic bulls. Encourage transmits an exceptional combination of +1,745 kg of milk with +0.37% fat and +0.33% protein, resulting in 209 kgs of fat and protein. This absolute leading bull in terms of efficiency scores 112 feed efficiency and +22% CRV Efficiency. For CRV Health, Encourage scores +8%. In Germany, Encourage scores 140 RZG.
Borax bull
Manders Upside (Fragrant x Ranger), number six in the NVI publication, also has a breeding value of 112 for feed efficiency. He scores +20% CRV Efficiency. With 107 udder, 108 feet and legs and 108 total conformation, he is also an excellent type improver. Upside is available through the Create programme, CRV's early-release semen programme.
Borax, number two in Germany and Spain
Former Create bull Delta Borax (Freestyle x Jakarta) is now freely available and kept up its numbers very well with a production proof of +1,295 kg milk with +0.46% fat and +0.12% protein, along with a high longevity of 639 days and 108 feed efficiency. He transmits good all-around health traits (resulting in +7% CRV Health), and 109 udder and 107 total conformation. Thanks to his all-around breeding pattern, this bull is attracting plenty of international interest. With 160 RZG, he ranks at second place in the German ranking of genomic bulls. Borax also ranks second in the Spanish ICO total merit index.
The breeding values of Delta Jacuzzi (Livington x Incentive) are now based on more than 3,000 daughters. They provide their sire with a breeding value of more than 1,000 kg milk with very high components: +0.77% fat and +0.15% protein. Jacuzzi’s daughters have firmly attached, shallow udders, and strong feet and legs. With +13% CRV Efficiency and 107 feed efficiency, this daughter-proven bull also guarantees daughters that convert feed into milk very efficiently. Jacuzzi continues to do well in Germany. He scores 139 RZG and is in the top 10 ranking of daughter-proven bulls.
Efficiency leaders from the TPI programme
Peak Lukaku (Eldorado x Rubicon) now has 2,320 daughters that are milking in 351 herds. They provide their sire with a production proof, on USA basis, of 1,204 Lbs of milk with +0.13% fat and +0.01% protein. Lukaku now scores 847 NM$ and 2,782 TPI. Lukaku’s daughters are easy-to-manage cows, with good udders and feet and legs. He scores +16% CRV Efficiency, so he can be expected to sire highly productive and efficient cows.
New addition Peak Mecanico (AltaKevlow x AltaZazzle) is the highest bull available in CRV’s lineup, with 3,105 gTPI and 1,205 NM$. His USA genomic proofs are almost 800 Lbs of milk with high components: +0.29% fat and +0.12% protein. Mecanico’s daughters will also convert feed very efficiently into milk, fat and protein. He scores +22% CRV Efficiency. In addition, this young bull transmits very solid, well-shaped udders and excellent udder health. Mecanico also scores very well for daughter pregnancy rate; +1.2.
Kings-Ransom Dazzlin (Pine-Tree Engineer x Pine-Tree Lagacy) is a bull that resulted from CRV's Create programme. His USA genomic proofs predict solid conformation and high components: +0.37% fat and +0.13% protein. Dazzlin also scores high on health traits such as somatic cell score (2.69 SCS), and he increases longevity (+6.5 PL). Dazzlin hails from a deep cow family from the Kings-Ransom breeding herd. Other CRV bulls from this successful family include Dynorama, Defiant, Gallivant and Donkeykong.
